Substratum: Under-the-Rhine
OTR A.D.O.P.T. is embarking on a quest….
Substratum: Under-the-Rhine, is an initiative of OTR A.D.O.P.T. to tell the many wonderful stories of Over-the-Rhine in physical form. Historic Over-the-Rhine has innumerable stories — some tangible, some ephemeral — hidden just beneath the surface, waiting to be told. From tales of the underground railroad, to Boss Cox at Wielert’s, to the “Rhine” Canal itself, these stories embody the history of Cincinnati from its founding until today. In order to tell these stories, Substratum will convert them into physical form — think fountains, monuments, and restored archaeological features such as cobblestones and beer tunnels — allowing people to experience them in a very real way.
As the first project of our Substratum initiative, OTR A.D.O.P.T. is working to restore the cobblestones under the streets of Over-the-Rhine. The initial pilot project location will be selected among four finalist locations currently under consideration. To provide your input on which of these streets you would like to see cobblestoned, please take the survey below.
